Susumaniello is an ancient red grape variety native to Puglia, historically widespread mainly between Brindisi and the Itria Valley. Its name comes from the local dialect and evokes the idea of a highly productive plant, "loaded like a donkey." After a period of near-abandoned status, it has been rediscovered in recent years for its ability to produce wines of great personality. The version produced by Paololeo comes from vineyards located on the hills of the Itria Valley, on calcareous-clay soils. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in stainless steel at a controlled temperature with a brief maceration on the skins. The wine then continues to age in stainless steel and then in the bottle, thus maintaining its freshness and aromatic integrity. In the glass, it stands out for its modern style: fruity, balanced, and well-structured, with elegant tannins and a typically Mediterranean aromatic profile. It is a red that successfully combines intensity and drinkability, making it suitable for both traditional Apulian cuisine and meat and cured meat dishes.
